There seemed to be general agreement on one type of success: Society’s success. The school grades, the job, the spouse, the house, the kids and so on. Cleverly described as our "goal line" by one guest, they also added another form of success - our ‘life line" i.e. the success relating to self awareness and understanding.
While to some success meant goal setting, to others it was contentment. Age was also a factor in making the definition of success a constantly changing goal post. “What was important then is not important now”, said a man of sixty. A point that seemed all the more clear when two teenage Salon guests shared the feeling that twenty one was the age everything had to be figured out. I smiled and had a great evening.
